Αναφορά του Προέδρου του Οργανισμού Ελληνικής Κληρονομιάς κ.Τόνι Λουράκη

Ο πρόεδρος του Οργανισμού Ελληνικής Κληρονομιας ευχαρίστησε τους σπόνσορες, τα μέλη, το Δ.Σ. του οργανισμού καθώς και όσους στηρίζουν το έργο του σημαντικού οργανισμού και ανέφερε στοιχεία του απολογισμού της χρονιάς που πέρασε.

Η χοροεσπερίδα του HHF ήταν απόλυτη επιτυχία με περισσότερους από 750 συμπαροίκοιυς ανάμεσα στους οποίους και πολλοί νέοι. Υπάρχει μεγάλη υποστήριξη για τους σκοπούς του οργανισμού, ενώ οι κυριότεροι στόχοι που τέθηκαν για φέτος και πέτυχαν είναι οι εξής: 1. Υποστήριξη της δημοτικής εκπαίδευσης σε όλο τον Καναδά και του προγράμματος εκπαίδευσης δασκάλων, χορήγησης βιβλίων και υποτροφιών ύψους 30 χιλιάδων προς την Ελληνική Κοινότητα.

2. Έναρξη του προγράμματος Ελληνικής Κληρονομιάς στον Καναδά σε συνεργασία με την Εθνική Ελληνική Κοινωνία από τις ΗΠΑ. Οι ελληνικής καταγωγής μαθητές μας θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσουν την κληρονομιά, ιστορία και πολιτισμό στην Ελλάδα με άλλους ελληνοκαναδούς και ελληνοαμερικανούς.

3. Ίδρυση της ομάδας της Επόμενης γενιάς.Μια ομάδα που θα εξασφαλίσει το πέρασμα στην επόμενη γενιά που απαρτίζεται από νέους της επόμενης γενιάς.

Dear members and directors,

Last Friday’s phenomenal gala was a testament to our progress. We saw a fantastic turnout of ~750 people, many new faces and many young people.

We are seeing this because people believe in the Hellenic Heritage Foundation and people are proud to support us.

There is broad support for our cause and there is a desire to do more for Hellenism in Canada.

We the members and the board of directors must harness this energy and continue to raise our ambitions.

I was also inspired by the enthusiastic participation at our recent strategy workshop. Those that participated came with many great ideas, some of which are big and bold. I look forward to continuing to work on our strategy with our facilitator, BDO, the board and select members. Our goal is to hone-in on a direction forward by the end of the fall.

As I mentioned in my remarks at the gala, it’s worth mentioning several key achievements this year:

1. Our foundations continued support of primary education including the teacher training program and our Greek-school text book grant program, which this year included a $30,000 grant the Greek Community of Toronto. We are proud to have supported several Greek schools across the country this past year.

2. The launch of the Heritage Greece program in Canada, in collaboration with the National Hellenic Society from the United States. This program has great potential and I would love to see it massively expanded. Like the Birth-Right Israel program, I dream of every young Greek-Canadian having the opportunity to spend some time studying our heritage, history and culture in our motherland with other young Greek-Canadians and Greek-Americans. I can’t think of a better way to light the flame of love for our culture in our young adults.

3. The establishment of the Hellenic Heritage Foundation Next Generation group. A group by the next generation, for the next generation and our best way of creating a sustainable organization.

Thank you to all of you for your commitment and your amazing work. Let’s keep going and growing, for there is much to do to continue to promote Hellenism and to preserve Hellenism for our future generations.
